Faculty Development Plan

URIM Faculty Development LogoPitt Pediatrics operates a structured URiM Faculty Advancement Program with multiple components:

  • Formal and consistent physician faculty onboarding when they enter employment 
  • Assigned formal mentor to each faculty member managed by each academic department
  • Institutional mentorship committee based upon the guidelines of the National Center for Leadership in Academic Medicine
  • Structured departmental goals
  • Emphasize second look visits
  • Prioritized promotion guidance, counseling, and support for URiM faculty in all promotion pathways 
  • Annual chair meetings focusing on propensity of junior faculty to stay and advance and establish expectations  of URiM candidates to be considered for open positions
  • Regular review by institutional mentorship committee to assure timely scholarly progress
