The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine offers an ACGME-accredited fellowship. We are located in Pittsburgh, one of the country's most affordable cities. Our program offers 3 years of training to physicians who have completed US residencies in pediatrics and 2-3 years of training to physicians who have completed US residencies in internal medicine, medicine-pediatrics, and family medicine.

The mission of our fellowship is to train the adolescent medicine leaders for the future. Our program trains fellows to become:

  • Effective advocates for adolescents in their communities
  • Outstanding clinicians with expertise providing adolescents with
    • Primary Care
    • Consultative Care
    • Medical care in collaboration with a team of multi-disciplinary colleagues
    • Health services in a wide range of clinical settings
      • Inpatient and outpatient consultative care
      • Care for the underserved (system-based youth and youth in housing crisis, mobile van services)
      • Juvenile Justice
      • College Health
      • Transition Services
      • Reproductive Health
      • Gender Care
  • Educators and mentors for trainees and community providers in adolescent health care
  • Accomplished academicians with rigorous research training and experience

Fellowship Clinical Training

The Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Health sees over 7,000 outpatient visits annually including both primary care and consultative care.


Over the years fellows have been involved in bench research, as well as clinical research, both qualitative and quantitative.

Teaching Opportunities

Adolescent Medicine Fellows are incorporated into the teaching mission.
