By the end of their training, our fellows are proficient in the management of acutely ill and injured children of all ages.
Highlights of our Emergency Department:
- Regional Level 1 Trauma Center
- Annual volume >80,000 visits
- ~1/5 of patients are admitted translating to breadth and depth of patient acuity
- 43 ED beds, 3 trauma bays, 7 critical care rooms
UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is the major pediatric referral site for western Pennsylvania, northeastern Ohio, western Maryland, northern West Virginia. We also have a busy in-hospital transport team and a large regional air and ground transport service.
Our division currently has more than 30 pediatric emergency medicine faculty and our staff also includes advanced practice providers and general pediatricians. We have three fellows per year.
Our faculty and fellows teach pediatric residents, emergency medicine residents, and visiting residents from various programs throughout the regions. Our faculty members are academically prolific and provide exceptional mentorship to our fellows across the range of scholarly domains in PEM.
