The Division of General Academic Pediatrics provides comprehensive health services, including sick visits and well-child visits, to infants, children, and adolescents throughout the Pittsburgh region at two Primary Care Centers located in Oakland and Turtle Creek.
At Children's Primary Care Centers, each child is assigned to a specific doctor or nurse practitioner (primary care provider) who gets to know the child and family and sees the child for regular health care (checkups, immunizations, etc.). Primary care providers pay attention to how well children are doing medically, develop mentally and socially. Pediatricians on staff provide ongoing, careful supervision to all medical residents and nurse practitioners at the Primary Care Centers.
Services and Availability
- Regular health care visits: Appointments with the child's regular primary care provider are made in advance for regular health care visits.
- Unexpected illness or injury: Same-day visits are available for children who are sick or sustain minor injury. The child and family may see someone other than their regular doctor or nurse practitioner during same-day visits. If a child needs other hospital services, this is arranged.
- Evening and Saturday hours: The Primary Care Center in Oakland is open on some evenings for children whose families cannot come to the center in Oakland during the day because they work, attend school or prefer evening visits. A limited number of regular health care appointments are available in Oakland on Saturdays.
- Question call-in line: Caregivers can call with questions about their child during normal business hours, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Emergency and after hours: Caregivers can call the main telephone number for emergencies for after hours and holidays.
