The fellowship educational curriculum includes a multitude of types of conferences for fellows to both learn from and participate in.
Fellow Lecture Series – Weekly lectures given either by faculty or by fellows, covering the basic topics of pediatric hematology/oncology and developed based on American Board of Pediatric content specifications.
Tumor Board – Weekly interdisciplinary conference to discuss the presentation, diagnosis, and management of oncology patients. In addition to the Heme/Onc/BMT physicians, participants typically include faculty from radiology, radiation oncology, surgery, and pathology.
Leukemia Tumor Board – Monthly review of new diagnosis and relapse leukemia cases.
Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board – Weekly conference lead by the neuro-oncology team, along with neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and radiation oncologists.
Hematopathology Conference – Twice a month conference run by the hematopathology faculty in which we review the bone marrow, peripheral blood, and flow cytometry results of pediatric cases that include basic/common diseases (ALL, AML) as well as the more rare entities.
Morphology Course – Facilitated by oncology faculty, the first year fellows meet twice a month to learn the basics of peripheral blood and bone marrow morphology review.
Weekly Divisional Conference – The hematology/oncology and BMT divisions both participate in this educational conference. Topics include journal club, M&M, national conference updates, faculty research talks, as well as speakers from outside the division and department.
Immunodeficiency Conference – Once a month, this multidisciplinary conference is attended by members of the Heme/Onc/BMT, Infectious Disease, and Allergy/Immunology divisions. The format is used to discuss patients that present diagnostic dilemmas as well as management of complex patients with immune deficiencies.
Hematology Core Conference – Monthly case presentation of interesting benign hematology cases.
