Didactics and Curriculum

The following didactic sessions are provided during the Infectious Disease fellowship:  

Fellows Teaching Conference

This fellow run conference occurs weekly for an hour and covers the entire curriculum provided in the content specifications for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases subspecialty board examination over 3 years.  

Journal Club

Recent publications in the infectious disease field are critically reviewed bi-monthly.  

Case Conference

This weekly, hour long conference showcases educational or challenging cases from the inpatient consult team with participation from all fellows and faculty in attendance.  

Infectious Diseases Grand Rounds

This weekly meeting run by the adult infectious disease division at UPMC with participation from other infectious divisions (including our own) across the city includes discussion of didactic adult and pediatric infectious disease cases, review of revised IDSA guidelines, updates on antimicrobial stewardship practices, debriefing of recent changes in epidemic crises (e.g., COVID-19), etc.  

Clinical and Research Conferences

Other available clinical conferences include Zitelli conference (weekly general pediatrics conference), Children's Hospital Grand Rounds, Cardiothoracic Transplant patient rounds, etc.  

Research conferences at the Children's campus include the weekly Rangos Research Seminar and  Mellon Scholars Seminar series.

Off campus research seminars that are often available by teleconference or video frequently of interest to Infectious Diseases fellows include department sponsored seminars from Immunology, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Graduate School of Public Health, and other University of Pittsburgh health science departments.
