Curriculum

Our program’s size provides trainees with an optimum balance between volume and variety of patients and cases. Our faculty are committed to optimizing fellows’ learning opportunities and being respectful of work/life balance. The first year is primarily clinical, and the second and third years of training are designed to facilitate the transition to increased independence in clinical situations, as well as robust exposure to quality improvement and research in nephrology to afford trainees with the opportunity to explore all types of careers in pediatric nephrology.

Year 1

18-20 weeks inpatient service (two-week blocks)
18-20 weeks of outpatient clinics (general nephrology clinic, pediatric kidney transplant clinic, and chronic hemodialysis rotation)
4 weeks of adult general nephrology consult service, including high-volume acute dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy
2 weeks of renal pathology and 2 weeks of pediatric urology
4 weeks of research
Weekly continuity clinic

Years 2 and 3

11 months research
4 one-week blocks of inpatient service
Continued participation in continuity clinics, chronic hemodialysis rotation and transplant clinics
