Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
Our division manages one of the busiest neonatal ECMO programs in the country:
- Fellows leave training feeling very comfortable managing ECMO babies.
- We offer a Neonatal Advanced ECMO Training Program that can be completed during fellowship. This program combines hands-on training and didactics.
Graduate Education
Fellows have the option of completing a graduate certificate or master’s degree as part of their scholarly activity in several areas including the following:
- Epidemiology
- Medical education
- Clinical research
- Bioethics

Air and Ground Infant Transports
As the referral center for sick babies in Western Pennsylvania and parts of West Virginia and Ohio, we run a robust neonatal transport program utilizing:
- Ambulance
- Fixed-wing aircraft
- Helicopter
Options for Post-fellowship Research Support
Through the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh there are several options for research support post-fellowship:
- NIH-sponsored K12 grant
- Clinical and Translational Science (CTS) Scholars Program (KL2)
- Physician Scientist Incubator Program
