FAQs

I think I registered – did I?
Several invitees thought they registered, but in fact only filled out the Interest Poll we circulated earlier this year. Registration went live on May 23rd, 2022 and closed on June 10th, 2022. However, we are extending registration to July 30th for those that would still like to attend. All registrants should have received a confirmation e-mail from Shelly Hart (michelle.hart@chp.edu). If you are unsure if you registered, please e-mail Shelly to confirm.

I run a research lab – can my current or past trainees attend this event? Certainly! As long as they are 18+, they are welcome to register for all events. We will also be supporting small travel awards for a select number of presenters. Please keep in mind that these trainees likely will not be on the initial e-mailing list and may require registration information forwarded to them.

Are significant others and children welcome to join? Significant others are welcome to join symposium events, but they should register individually. Due to restrictions at the hosting site (UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh), children 17 and under will not be allowed at symposium events on campus. However, children are welcome to join the PNC Park Luncheon on Saturday.

What is the weather like in Pittsburgh? As Pittsburghers, we always say “if you’re not happy with the weather, just wait five minutes!”. August in Pittsburgh is generally warm, with temperatures averaging with a high of 82 °F and a low of 64 °F. Rain is not uncommon during August.

Is there a dress code? There are no dress requirements. Close-toed shoes will be required if you would like to see the current lab home of the Dermody team. Additionally, conference spaces are air-conditioned, so while it may be sunny and warm in Pittsburgh, we recommend you bring a light jacket or equivalent.

What are the maximum poster dimensions allowed?
Posters should be prepared to fit a maximum of 36" height x 48" width.
Easels and form board with tacks to hang your poster will be provided.

How will COVID-19 restrictions influence my visit?
UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh does not currently require proof of vaccination for events. However, we fully support vaccination and the role it can play in reducing severe disease and transmission. Masking will be required for all in attendance except when eating, drinking, or presenting an oral presentation. Break-out spaces, including an outdoor patio area, will be provided for those that would like to eat distanced from others. We will be following all restrictions and guidelines in place related to COVID-19 at the time of event.
