Alsaied Accepted To Society For Pediatric Research

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Tarek Alsaied, MD, MSc, FACC, for his recent acceptance of membership into the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR). Alsaied is an Assistant Professor Pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology, and his current areas of interest include cardiac MRI research and novel treatments for Fontan physiology, as well as imaging markers for Fontan circulation.

The SPR manages the leading medical journal, Pediatric Research, and aims to create a multi-disciplinary network of diverse researchers to improve child health worldwide. With three main goals of connecting and facilitating communications among researchers, promoting active collaborations, and advocating for funding, the SPR is a major international organization that has supported new and groundbreaking research for decades.

Alsaied was nominated for this role by Richard Saladino, MD, Associate Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Alsaied was among a group of Pitt Pediatrics researchers published earlier this year in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), making a landmark conclusion regarding the effectiveness of regular aspirin among pediatric populations following Fontan palliation, a significant finding that eluded pediatric cardiologists for decades.

Alsaied joins Jacqueline Ho, MD, MSc, Director of the Division of Nephrology, in the SPR. Ho was elected as the Council’s nephrology representative at the beginning of the year

Congrats to Alsaied on this well-deserved achievement!
