Arora Appointed Director of Electrophysiology with Heart Institute

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Gaurav Arora, MD, for his new position as the Director of Electrophysiology at the Heart Institute, UMPC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Arora is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics with the department. 

Arora has an educational background in a BA of Psychology and Biology from Rice University, followed by a Doctorate in Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Electrophysiology. Following training, Dr. Arora joined the Heart Institute in 2006 to become Associate Director of Electrophysiology supporting a significant growth of the EP program in collaboration with Lee Beerman, MD

Arora's commitment to patient care and dedication to excellence have been recognized with several accolades throughout his career, including the Best Doctors award by Pittsburgh Magazine and the UPMC Excellence in Patient Experience Award. His passion for teaching and research has led to his involvement in various academic and scientific societies, further enriching the knowledge base of his field. Arora has authored more than 40 peer reviewed publications, numerous book chapters and podcasts, extensive number of lectureships and seminars, leading many clinical research projects, among other impactful scholarly contributions. He has had extensive service contributions regionally, nationally, and internationally, including serving as the Associate Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs and Ambulatory Care within the Department of Pediatrics until 2022 and Chair of the Pediatric and Congenital EP Society (PACES) Membership Committee.

The Heart Institute would also like to take the opportunity to extend their sincere gratitude to Lee Beerman, MD, for his contributions as Director of Electrophysiology. Beerman established the EP program at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1985 and has directed the EP program for nearly 40 years. His leadership and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the EP program, and they are grateful for his unwavering commitment to excellence. His legacy will continue to have long lasting impactful effects on the Heart Institute forever.
