Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Kevin Cesa, MD, for his publication in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science. The article was titled “A Review of Extraintestinal Manifestations and Medication-Induced Myocarditis and Pericarditis in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease.”
The team consisting of Cesa, Tyler Harris, MD, Whitney Sunseri, MD, and Catherine Cunningham studied the effect inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) had on organs throughout the body, especially the heart. While rare, these extraintestinal symptoms within the heart are associated with significant morbidity. With their work, they “aim to identify and highlight the gaps in current knowledge for future studies and investigations.”
