Chaves-Gneeco Co-Authors Publication On Latin American Family Displacement

Diego G. Chaves-Gnecco, MD, MPH, FAAPA team of collaborators including Diego G. Chaves-Gnecco, MD, MPH, FAAP, associate professor in the Division of General Academic Pediatrics, analyzed methods to improve the U.S. immigration system and reduce negative health impacts on migrant children and families.

Published in the March 2021 edition of Pediatric Clinics of North America, the article titled Forcible Displacement, Migration, and Violence Against Children and Families in Latin America discusses ongoing socieital, economic, and security challenges in Latin American counties that are contributing to the large influx of migrants to the southern border of the United States.  The group reviews negative long-term impacts of U.S. immigration policies, including family separation, on the health and wellbeing of children.

Chaves-Gnecco was joined by Glenn Flores, MD, FAAP, chair of pediatrics and senior associate dean at the University of Miami School of Medicine.
