Dancisin Poster Wins First Place At Healthcare Quality Week

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Maria Cecilia Q. Dancisin, MBA, CMI-Spanish, of the International Services Team of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, for her first place winning poster at the annual Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh National Healthcare Quality Week!

Dancisin is the Senior Manager of the International Department at Children’s, which is an organized team of international liaisons dedicated to addressing the needs of parents, patients, and referring physicians around the world. The team offers communications and services in multiple languages.

In designing her research, Dancisin was concerned about the lack of consistent and accurate documentation of language preference in medical records, which can prevent UPMC from providing proper language resources and care to language diverse patients and families. To address this issue, she developed a process to improve language preference documentation, with the help and guidance of the Wolff Academy’s Quality Education Series (QES).

Following her time with the Wolff Academy, Dancisin, along with a collaborative team, helped implement the QI process change at the hospital. Ultimately, this work was presented on a poster titled, “Early and Prompt Identification of Language Preference in the Medical Record to Improve Language Services at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.”

Others involved with this collaborative work include Michael Knapp, BS, Loreta Matheo, MD (Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Pediatrics), and Maya Ragavan, MD, MPH, MS (Associate Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Research).

Join us in celebrating this wonderful accomplishment!
