Friehling Accepted Into AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Erika Friehling, MD, for recently being accepted into the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar. Friehling is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology-Oncology as well as the Department of Pediatrics’ Senior Associate Vice Chair of Faculty Development. In addition, Friehling maintains leadership roles as the Fellowship Program Director for the Division of Hematology-Oncology and as the Co-Director of the Office of Faculty Development

The AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar is an engaging three-day seminar designed to provide mid-career women faculty with the resources and tools to support their growth and progress in leadership roles in academic medicine and science. 

Combining leadership training with growth strategies, the Seminar provides participants with personalized curriculum, broad networking opportunities, and interactive opportunities. Acceptance into the seminar is competitive and represents an acknowledgement of a candidates’ own career potential in leadership within the world of academic medicine and science.

In her leadership roles, Friehling focuses her efforts on mentoring and career advancement across the continuum. In addition to directing two graduate level courses on career/professional development, runs a faculty mentoring program, and organizes orientation for new faculty. Locally and nationally, Friehling has facilitated workshops on professional development and career growth in academic medicine capacities. 

“As someone who truly enjoys the clinical, educational, and administrative aspects of my role,” Friehling states, “I am excited to expand my impact while remaining connected to those three aspects of academic medicine.”

This opportunity will provide much earned support, insight, mentorship, and opportunity for Friehling to enhance her efforts with the Office of Faculty Development, and in all her leadership roles.
