Hand Receives March of Dimes Grant to Support Monoclonal Antibody Development

Timothy W. Hand, PhDPitt Pediatrics congratulates assistant professor Timothy W. Hand, PhD, on his receipt of an award from the March of Dimes Foundation entitled “Development of a ‘Pan’ Anti-Enterobacteriaceae secretory Immunoglobulin A antibody to prevent the development of Necrotizing Enterocolitis.”

This grant will support development and testing of a new monoclonal antibody to prevent development of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), a devastating disease that leads to lifelong complications or death of low birthweight preterm infants.  Funding will be provided through May 31, 2022.

In addition to service in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Hand is director of the Gnotobiotic Animal Core Laboratory and scholar at the Richard King Mellon Foundation Institute for Pediatric Research.
