Kane Receives First R01 Award, Will Study Mx2 Cellular Protein

Melissa E. Kane, PhDPitt Pediatrics congratulates assistant professor Melissa E. Kane, PhD, of the Division of Infectious Diseases on receipt of her first NIH R01 grant titled "Inhibition of lentiviral nuclear import pathways by Mx2."

Supported by the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases through 2026, this grant will support Kane's research on determining how Mx2 is localized to the nuclear pore complex, the nuclear import pathways that are inhibited by Mx2, how Mx2 is affected be heterogeneity in nucleocytoplasmic trafficking, and how Mx2 affects the interaction of HIV-1 with other antiviral proteins.
