Martin Leads Expansion of Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine Trials at Children's Hospital

Judith M. Martin, MDOn June 23, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Pitt Pediatrics joined the Moderna "KidCOVE" vaccine trial, starting enrollments of children aged six months to 12 years.

The Pittsburgh Vaccine Trials Unit (PVTU), directed by professor Judith M. Martin, MD, of the Division of General Academic Pediatrics, played a key role in adult COVID-19 vaccine trials early in the pandemic.  The PVTU is one of 100 study sites in the U.S. and Canada participating in the study, which seeks to enroll 7,050 children.

It is being conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
