Miller Appointed To Sustaining Essential Health Care Services Related to Intimate Partner Violence During Public Health Emergencies Committee

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Elizabeth Miller, MD, PhD, FSAHM for her appointment to the Sustaining Essential Health Care Services Related to Intimate Partner Violence During Public Health Emergencies committee, an ad hoc committee of the National Academics of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Since the onset of COVID-19, emerging data and reports have shown that all types of violence against women, particularly intimate partner violence (IPV), have intensified. Public health emergencies and other hazards have the potential to negatively affect a wide range of women’s health care services, including those related to IPV.  An ad hoc committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine shall develop a conceptual framework for delivering essential preventive and primary health care services related to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) during public health emergencies (PHEs), using an all-hazards approach.

This committee is working to, among other things, identify and define essential health care services related to IPV in PHEs on current available evidence, identify ways to prepare for and prioritize the provision of these health care services, and describe health disparities related to IPV in PHEs.
