An announcement from the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics:

I am excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Andy Nowalk as Vice Chair of International Relations in the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Nowalk is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Infectious Disease. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his pediatrics residency and infectious disease fellowship at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Nowalk is the Clinical Services Director for the Division of Infectious Disease. He serves several key educational roles as the Co-Program Director for both the Pediatric Residency as well as the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PedSDP) within the Categorical Pediatric Residency Program. He serves as the Associate Vice Chair for Education – GME/Residency for these roles. He leads an active clinical program focused on Lyme disease, with research on Lyme disease, antibiotic lock therapy, and multiple medical education topics.

In the role of Vice Chair for International Relations, Dr. Nowalk will have broad responsibility for leadership, development, and support of international relationships and activities within the Department of Pediatrics. He will serve as a liaison for hospital administration. He brings to this role special expertise in resident education and subspecialty clinical care.

Dr. Nowalk will begin his work as Vice Chair on January 1, 2024 as Dr. A. Kim Ritchey, the current Vice Chair of International Relations, transitions into a new Vice Chair Emeritus role to continue to support Dr. Nowalk and the Department of Pediatrics leadership.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Nowalk on this vital leadership role and thanking Dr. Ritchey for his contributions to the International Relations domain.

Best,
