CHAMP (Career Help Advancement and Achievement Mentorship Program) is a collaborative effort within the Department of Pediatrics and the Pitt School of Medicine that connects students at Arsenal Middle School with medical students, Pitt faculty, and other mentors in STEM fields across the health sciences schools at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. CHAMP’s goal is to help incorporate health sciences curriculum into educational programming with the help of guest speakers and ongoing mentorship events, while also encouraging students to pursue education and careers in STEM fields. Read more about CHAMP on the Pitt Pediatrics website here.

Started in 2020 with the help of the Department of Pediatrics, including Noel Spears, MD, and Orquidia Torres, MD, MS, CHAMP has recently hosted Black History Trivia Bowl with Arsenal Middle School Students and in coordination with the PGH HBCU Collaborative, and a “Save A Life Day” for students to learn CPR and first aid. Many more events are to come.

Pitt Pediatrics excitedly looks forward to Owusu-Ansah’s continued work with CHAMP, the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Community.
