Pitt Pediatrics congratulates the Division of Endocrinology on their recent publication titled "Pediatric diabetes care during the COVID‐19 pandemic: Lessons learned in scaling up telemedicine services" in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism.
The article illustrates the rapid expansion of telemedicine services in UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism allowing continuation of high-quality care to approximately 2,200 patients. With over 80 percent of approximately 200 scheduled weekly outpatient visits now conducted virtually, the division's cancellation and no-show rates have decreased.
Using a collaborative approach, the team determined appropriate telemedicine software platforms, refined administrative and billing workflows, maintained engagement of fellows and providers, and sustained a positive patient experience.
The effort was conducted in partnership with the following faculty and staff:
- Aaron Chrisman
- Diana DeArment, PA-C
- Amanda C. Flint, MD
- Amy Gilliland, RN, MSN, CDE
- Karen Kelly, RN, BSN, CDE
