Promotions and Awards: Pitt Pediatrics Faculty Recognized During Winter 2020

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates the following faculty on their promotions and recognitions during the winter of 2020:

Promotions

Srinivasan Suresh, MD, MBA, FAAP, division director of Health Infomatics, was promoted to professor of pediatrics.  

Kalyani R. Vats, MD of the Division of Newborn Medicine and James E. Squires, MD, MS of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition were both promoted to associate professor.

Recognitions

Jerry Vockley, MD, PhD, FACMG, division director of Genetic and Genomic Medicine, was elected to the American College of Medical Genetics Board of Directors and will hold the biochemical genetics seat.

Scott W. Canna, MD was elected to the Henry Kunkel Society, an organization that supports patient-centered and patient-based research focused on immunology.

Melissa Kane, PhD received the Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program in HIV award.

Anita K. McElroy, MD, PhD received the 2020 Pediatric Infectious Diseases Soceity Young Investigator award.

Carlton M. Bates, MD was appointed to the Physician Scientist Development Lead on the Executive Committee on Council for the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR).  Bates, along with Division of Hematology-Oncology director Linda M. McAllister-Lucas, MD, PhD and Catherine Forster, MD, MS, FAAP were elected to the SPR Council.

Jennifer Johnson, DO, FASE was named director of the Fetal and Perinatal Cardiology Program at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.

Katharina Hayes, MD was appointed co-director of the inpatient pediatric clerkship at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Brett L. McAninch, MD, FAAP was appointed co-course director of the specialty care clerkship at Children's Hospital.

Jacqueline Ho, MD, MSc was elected to the American Pediatric Society and American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Amy Houtrow, MD received the Women in Science Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.
