Ragavan Named 2023 Recipient of Pitt Sustainability Award

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Maya Ragavan, MD, MPH, MS, for being named a recipient of the 2023 Pitt Sustainability Award. Ragavan was unanimously selected by the review team due to her commitment to leadership and sustainability as a faculty member with the University of Pittsburgh.

Every year since 2015, the University of Pittsburgh has awarded the Pitt Sustainability Awards, which recognize Pitt faculty, staff, students, and groups who are making an extraordinary impact on campus sustainability through the relevant aims of the Pitt Sustainability Plan. These individuals or groups are celebrated for their contributions to a thriving culture of sustainability at Pitt through their ideas, talents, and passions.

Ragavan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and Associate Vice Chair in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Research, focuses her research primarily on preventing intimate partner violence (IPV), specifically by supporting IPV survivors in pediatric healthcare settings and examining the impact of cultural and structural racism on IPV survivors and their families. She also does work focused on engaging parents in supporting their adolescent-age children in developing healthy romantic relationships.

The majority of Ragavan’s research is conducted in partnership with community-based organizations and in non-English speaking communities. She is hosting a Linguistic Justice in Research Conference in April (register here). For more information on her work, visit her lab’s website here.
