Sharp Receives Academic Pediatric Association's Fellow Research Award

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Eleanor Sharp, MD, for receiving the Academic Pediatric Association’s Fellow Research award for her PAS abstract “Female Physician Parents Were Ten Times More Likely to Report Decreased Academic Productivity During the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Sharp led a team consisting of Benjamin G. Miller, MD,  Erika Friehling, MD, Hiren Muzumdar, MDTraci M. Kazmerski, MD, MS, and Jon Pelletier, MD on this research.

In the study, the team surveyed pediatric faculty, residents, and fellows at a quaternary-care children’s hospital in August 2021. They asked about issues like work environment, homecare obligations, and academic productivity. Of the respondents, 50% reported decreased academic productivity with females making up almost 66% of that group.
