2024 SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SRIP) APPLICATION

SRIP will run from Monday, June 3, 2024, through Friday, July 26, 2024. Participants are expected to complete the full 8-week program, which includes working 40 hours per week, to receive compensation at $15/hr. (no overtime is allowed). At the end of the program, participants are required to present their studied research to their fellow SRIP peers, faculty mentors and the research community through the Poster Day forum. This research presentation is the culminating event and takes places during the last week of the program and is mandatory for all participants. Housing may be provided with this program. 

Due to the increased number of applicants, the review and selection process has been extended. Applicants will be informed of their acceptance in March 2024.

Applications must be completed by January 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Program Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must: 

  • Be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program with an institution of higher learning. Science based programs are preferred
  • Be able to verify:  
    • Undergraduate coursework of two semesters of education, or
    • Coursework of at least one semester of education remaining upon completion of the internship, or 
    • Acceptance into an advanced degree program upon completion of the internship.
  • Provide proof of:  
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and  
    • U.S. Citizenship or Legal Status
  • Successfully submit the SRIP Written Evaluation and this Application
  • Complete All Onboarding Paperwork which includes:  
    • Required Clearances (Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73) (self-paid) and 
    • Pre-employment Health Assessment (self-scheduled and required to be up to date on immunizations and free from contagious disease) and 
    • I-9 Form

Contingently accepted participants will be notified, in February/March 2024, to begin the onboarding process. To receive an Acceptance Letter and Mentor Assignment, participants must complete all aspects of onboarding.


SRIP Written Evaluation

Applicants must complete this form in one sitting.  Incomplete forms cannot be saved for retrieval. It is required to have the Written Application ready to upload before proceeding. Please provide answers to the following questions and number your responses in this document. The document must be single spaced with a maximum word count of 150 per question.

  • Why do you wish to participate in the summer research internship program? Address your future goals and previous research experience.
  • Give me an example of a time you were most proud of your own work.
  • Tell me about a time you were working on a project or task, and it did not go as planned, what did you learn from it? 

Please upload your Written Evaluation, as a PDF, using the following format for the file name: "LastName_FirstName_Evaluation.pdf" (ex. "Smith_Jane_Evaluation.pdf). 

**Letters of recommendation will not be accepted or considered in the application review process.
