Brown is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine within the Division of Hematology-Oncology.  She is also a physician in the Division of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. 

Brown received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 2003 and her medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2007. She completed her pediatrics residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2010. She joined the Paul C. Gaffney Diagnostic Referral Service in 2010 where she worked as a pediatric hospitalist until 2015. She completed her fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine in 2017. 

Brown is passionate about teaching communication skills to healthcare providers and has taught courses for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty. As a co-course director for the Introduction to Being a Physician course at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, she teaches first year medical students about the importance of the physician-patient relationship. She obtained her master’s degree in medical education in May 2019 and her thesis work included developing a curriculum on medical error disclosure for pediatric residents. Brown is also the Program Director for the Pediatric Palliative/Supportive Care APP Fellowship at Children's. She is board certified in pediatrics and hospice and palliative medicine.
