Carol Gilmour, MD, MPH, is a UPMC neonatologist and serves as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at UPMC Mercy and Neonatology Medical Director at UPMC Horizon.

Gilmour received her medical degree from the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and her MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She completed her residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Gilmour is certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. Professional interests include fetal and infant growth and nutrition, fetal effects of maternal disease, clinical outcomes and quality improvement. Notable achievements include the American College of Nutrition Anafred N. Halpern Award and New Investigator Research Grant Award (1993), the Midwest Society for Pediatric Research James Sutherland Young Investigator Award (1997), and You Rock! Recognition by the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital NICU Nursing Staff (2018).

Gilmour is currently the physician lead for the Coding and Billing Optimization project in the Division of Newborn Medicine. By avocation, she is a clarinetist and was selected into the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience permanent online exhibit “Expressions of Clinician Well-Being An Art Exhibition” (2018).
