Christy Lucas, MD is a native Pittsburgher and 2016 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where she double-majored in Science Pre-professional Studies (SCPP) and Psychology while working as a waitress, teaching assistant, and academic mentor for the Notre Dame Football Team. She graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Psi Chi honor societies. She went on to attend Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, where she continued to pursue her longstanding interest in autism and additionally developed a passion for medical humanities and patient-reported outcomes research. Her professional interests include advocacy, pediatric community service, the patient experience, medical education, and narrative medicine. She continues to work toward developing more humanizing hospital attire to improve the patient experience, which also includes running a fundraiser called “Stitches with Hope” through the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, raising over $20,000 since its inception in 2015 to provide clothing to patients and families at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at no cost. After completing her Pediatric residency, she will be pursuing a fellowship in a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology with the goal of becoming a Palliative Ongologist.
