Elaine A. Cassidy, MD, RhMSUS

Elaine A. Cassidy, MD is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She has dedicated her career to caring for children with rheumatic diseases and the medical education of fellows, residents, and medical students.
Dr. Cassidy received bachelor's degrees in biology and chemistry from Kent State University, she then went on to gain a master’s degree in Molecular Virology, Immunology, and Medical Genetics from The Ohio State University. She earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2004. Dr. Cassidy completed a pediatric residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in 2007, and then continued her medical training with a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh through 2010. She started her career as a clinician-educator at Nationwide Children’s Hospital/The Ohio State University School of Medicine. She returned to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Fall of 2011 and served as full-time attending physician and Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program. She later went on to assume the additional roles of Director of Education for the Division of Rheumatology 2018-2021, and Clinical Director of the Division of Rheumatology 2019-2021. She joined the faculty at Geisinger Medical Center/Janet Weis Children’s Hospital as Director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology 2021-2023. She then returned to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Fall of 2023 to continue as a clinician educator. Dr. Cassidy completed a program in musculoskeletal ultrasound through the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR) and then earned the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Certification in Rheumatology (RhMSUS) through the American College of Rheumatology. She utilizes musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic and procedural capabilities in the care of children with rheumatic diseases. Dr. Cassidy also educates fellows in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
