Elissa Katherine Ortolani, MD

Dr. Elissa Ortolani is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Division of Child Neurology and an assistant professor of neurology.
Dr. Ortolani earned her Bachelor’s degree from Boston College and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical sciences. She completed her Child Neurology Residency at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Vascular Neurology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining Pitt, Dr. Ortolani was an assistant professor of pediatrics and neurology at Emory University . She joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2021.
Dr. Ortolani is dual board certified in Neurology with special qualification in child neurology and Vascular Neurology. She has a special interest in pediatric vascular disease, including, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, disorders of the brain’s arteries and veins, venous sinus thrombosis and transient ischemic attacks. She has presented on these topics locally and nationally. She spends a percentage of her clinical time caring for adult stroke patients, where she focuses on the care of young adults and the transition of pediatric patients to adult stroke care.
