Laura Joyce West, MD
- Assistant Professor of Pediatrics
- Director, Allergy and Immunology Resident and Medical Student Electives
West is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is a board-certified Allergist/Immunologist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She completed her medical school training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her residency in Pediatrics and Chief Residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh followed by her fellowship in Allergy/Immunology. During her fellowship, West conducted clinical research on the de novo development of food allergies in children following solid organ transplantation. Now as a junior faculty member, she focuses her academic interests on medical education and mentorship and serves as the Director of the Medical Student and Resident Electives in Allergy/Immunology at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She also conducts advocacy work with a particular interest in promoting universal statewide newborn screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency. West is a Pittsburgh native, a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan, and enjoys spending time outside of work with her husband and son.
