Patricia K. Crumrine, MD

  • Professor of Pediatrics

Crumrine is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Clinical Track and Educator Track, and Attending Child Neurologist/Epileptologist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Her career there has been as the electroencephalographer and epileptologist, and has included director of EEG and Epilepsy from 1975-2008 and director of the Child Neurology Residency Program from 2006-2013.  

Her clinical research has been primarily in the clinical trials of new antiepileptic drugs. These have included  the site PI for the following multicenter NINDS funded studies including ( Changes in Clearance of Antiepileptic Drugs During Puberty 1996-1999; Childhood Absence Seizure Study 2003-2013; and the Epilepsy Phenonome, Genome Study, 2010-2012) as well as the site PI for a number of pharmaceutical sponsored clinical drug trials (cinromide, lamotrigine, vigabatrin).

Crumrine has been active in the American Academy of Pediatrics, serving on their Scientific Selection Committee from 1989-1995; American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, serving as an examiner from 1978-2008, on several of the exam writing committees, and as a director on the Board from 2006-2013. She also served as a Councillor, Secretary-Treasurer, and Newsletter editor for the Child Neurology Society; two separate terms on the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of America; Counsellor for the Clinical Neurophysiology Society from 199-2002; Member 2006-2013 and Chair for the Neurology Residency Review Committee 2011-2013 for the ACGME. She currently serve on several committees for the American Academy of Neurology (Task Force on Neurologist Burnout), Member Research Subcommittee, Member Retention Committee and became a fellow in 2016.

Her Honors include Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Drexel University SOM Alumni Association in 2012 and from the Child Neurology Society in 2015 and Best Doctors in America 2005-2020 and Best Doctors in Pittsburgh 2013-2020.
