Shakuntala Basu, PhD

Dr. Basu obtained her Bachelors in Life Sciences (1995) followed by Masters (1997) in Zoology from Visva Bharati University, India. Thereafter, she joined the PhD program in Department of Zoology, Visva Bharati University funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and obtained her PhD in Zoology in 2004. She relocated to Japan with her husband in 2004 . In Japan she joined the laboratory of Professor Yoshitaka Nagahama as a Post-Doctoral fellow. She joined the Vockley Lab in the Division of Medical Genetics in 2019. Dr. Basu brings her experience and expertise in animal biology to contribute to the animal models of metabolic diseases in the Vockley lab. She is currently part of several projects testing novel therapeutics fortreatment of various inborn errors in metabolism.
