Sharmilarani H. Nanda, MBBS

Nanda graduated from the prestigious Stanley Medical College in Chennai, India after which most of her work was in the field of general Internal Medicine that included a one year post graduate stint in the Institute of Thoracic medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Elmhurst Hospital/Mount Sinai in New York following which she served as a general academic pediatrician at West Virginia University and subsequently completed her fellowship in neonatology from WVU in 2014. She is currently serving as an attending neonatologist at Magee-Womens, UPMC Hamot and has an academic teaching appointment from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Nanda is a clinician educator. Her early career as a general academic pediatrician has honed her skills in General Pediatrics. During her tenure in general academic pediatrics at WVU, she was nominated for the WVU distinguished teacher award in 2011 and was a finalist for that nomination. Since her fellowship in neonatology, she is striving to better understand the pathophysiology of neonatal disease and its impact on developmental outcomes. In order to further her quest, she is part of the Children’s Health Network Consortium that is involved in studying developmental outcomes in high risk neonates. In addition to teaching, she enjoys taking care of neonates and is an advocate for family centered care in the unit. Her interests include NAS care and neonatal follow up. She is also involved with the CHNC in the development of database guidelines and criteria to determine outcomes in neonates with rare diseases such as CDH. In addition, she is also interested in parental health advocacy and is involved in a QI collaborative that looks at safe transition home of high risk neonates.
