Xayathed Somoulay, BS
- PhD Candidate
Xayathed Somoulay joined the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine as a graduate student in the Program in Microbiology and Immunology in 2018. As part of the Terence S. Dermody lab, Xayathed’s research focus is on the cell biology of reovirus infection. He is interested in how viruses usurp host cells to successfully replicate and is studying the function of the reovirus nonstructural proteins in reorganizing intracellular membranes. Prior to the University of Pittsburgh, Xayathed received his B.S. in biology at St. John Fisher College before training as a postbaccalaureate fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the laboratory of Wei-Shau Hu. After graduate school, Xayathed plans to pursue a career in science with a focus on virology.
