Allison E. Williams, MD

Dr. Allison Williams joined the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in 2018 immediately following completion of her pediatric residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She practices full-time as a clinician-educator through the division’s traditional hospitalist model, the evening hospitalist program, as well as the limited teaching service.

Dr. Williams is a clinical expert in the care of hospitalized children, with a focus on medical-surgical co-management. She developed a new pediatric service line at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) entitled Medical Surgical Co-Management team to provide care for hospitalized post-operative children with medical complexities. She has served as the director of this care team since 2020.

Dr. Williams has been an active physician-leader of the UPMC CHP Clinical Resource Management Team (CRM) since 2020. In February 2024, she was appointed Physician Lead for Inpatient Clinical Pathways. Through this leadership role she oversees the development and revision of all inpatient guidelines, ensures communication of CEGs to pediatric trainees and faculty within UPMC CHP, monitors adherence and use of CEGs through various metric analysis, and is improving the accessibility of CEGs to providers across the UPMC network.

As a clinician-educator, Dr. Williams enjoys teaching medical students and pediatric residents. Because of her dedication to medical education, in 2023 she was appointed the Co-Director of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Pediatric Acting Internship Elective.
