Sean Edwin Button, MD

  • Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Administrative Assistant: Deborah Irwin

Sean was born in Rochester, NY but quickly strolled off to Pittsburgh to learn how to crawl and walk. Later, he then migrated to the "Great White North “Montreal, Canada" where he honed his Canadian vocabulary and stayed for 25 years, Ey! He worked 11 years in the student travel business until one summer, he ended up visiting several Emergency Departments in France and Italy with a sick student, where he would become intrigued by the ED process.

Bonjourno to Medical School and returning to his grass routes in Upstate New York for Pediatric Residency. Sean fell in love with the excitement and challenge of Emergency Medicine and returned to Pittsburgh for a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. He stayed on as Faculty because of his love for Pittsburgh and the access to a tremendous ED group with a vast array of knowledge, experience, and interests. Dr. Button enjoys patient care, teaching students, residents, and fellows, and has interest in emergency medicine administration. Sean met his future husband - Rafael, who is from Mexico, in 2004, and share interests in family, friends, hockey, golf, football, eating, playing, laughing, traveling, maple syrup, and really just enjoying the journey of life. If you ever meet him, he does like to engage in conversation but what people don't know is that he is actually quite shy until he feels more comfortable!
