Azzuqa Named ELH Program Fellow

Please join us in congratulating Abeer Azzuqa, MD, for her recent acceptance as a fellow in the Executive Leadership in Healthcare (ELH) Program, a nationally recognized leadership training program for women in academic medicine, and a core part of the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University’s College of Medicine.

The ELH Program is built on the success of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program, and is designed to provide and foster concepts, tools, and skills that will enable women leaders to bring their full potential to health care organizations. The fellowship is targeted to support rising women at an associate or full professor level with a track record of achievement in clinical program development with intention to lead at an executive level in the next five years.

Azzuqa received her medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology and completed her residency and Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship at the UPMC Children’s Hospital. Currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in our Division of Newborn Medicine, as well as the Clinical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UPMC Children’s Hospital, Azzuqa also serves as the Associate Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs/Telehealth and Medical Director of Neonatal Telemedicine.

In her role, she provides oversight of the entire breadth of clinical activities in the NICU. Azzuqa has been instrumental in establishing the neonatal telemedicine program for the UPMC Division of Newborn Medicine. In addition to her clinical and administrative duties, Azzuqa is involved in all aspects of the Division of Newborn Medicine’s educational activities. Her research interests include digital health innovations, neonatal nutrition, and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.

Pitt Pediatrics looks forward to the skills and tools Azzuqa will bring back to CHP and the Department for the benefit of our patients.
