Pitt Pediatrics is proud to announce that Maya Ragavan, MD, MPH, MS, has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Pennsylvania AAP’s DEI Champion Award. This prestigious award was established by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to recognize an individual who champions diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of pediatric health care in the state. Ragavan was unanimously selected for this award.
Ragavan is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in our Division of General Academic Pediatrics (GAP) as well as the Associate Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Research in our Department.
Having completed medical school at Northwestern University, Ragavan attended Stanford Children’s Hospital for her pediatric residency, and Boston Medical Center for her fellowship. Her current research interests focus on preventing intimate partner violence (IPV), specifically with support in pediatric healthcare settings, as well as in the examination of cultural and structural pressures on race.
Ragavan is deeply passionate about uplifting community voices through research and the majority of her research is conducted in partnership with community-based organizations. She also is interested in language equity in research, and focuses her work on communities who speak languages other than English. Ragavan is currently funded by the NIH and OVW to develop and test novel interventions to support perinatal IPV survivors and prevent dating violence.
This award was presented over the weekend at the PA AAP’s annual Pediatric Conference in Hershey, PA.
Join us in congratulating Dr. Ragavan and in expressing our gratitude for her continued work in this enormously important area.
