Alyssa Aburachis, MD
- Resident, PGY-3
Alyssa is currently a resident in the Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Residency at the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. First inspired by her two brothers who have autism and developmental differences, Alyssa has long been motivated to work with children and adults who have developmental disabilities. As a science and humanities scholar at Carnegie Mellon University, Alyssa researched language acquisition while completing degrees in neurobiology, psychology, and french. Prior to entering medical school, she spent just over two years working at CHP in the NDRD clinic with patients who have lysosomal storage disorders and researching the natural history and staging of Sanfilippo Syndrome. She completed her MD at the University of Pittsburgh where she developed an interest in medical education and became involved with the school's curriculum committee. She hopes to bring these interests together with a career in academic medicine teaching future physicians while clinically caring for children and adults with developmental differences. She is most passionate about transitional care for young adults with disabilities, improving and maximizing supports for people with autism, caring for the developmental needs of medically complex individuals, and advocating for rare disease populations.
Hometown: Pittsburgh
When I'm not at CHP, I can be found with my nose in a book, playing on a tennis court, or getting really invested in Pittsburgh Penguins games.
