Marcia A. Pope, RN

  • Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator

Marcia Pope was born and raised in McKeesport and graduated from McKeesport Senior High School with high honors in science and a special interest in the study of Anatomy and Physiology. Marcia was destined to be a caregiver; even as a child, she would mend everyone’s cuts and bruises in her neighborhood. It was a natural progression to follow a nursing career. She attended CCAC and received an Associate Degree in Nursing.

Marcia worked in a Nursing Home and as a Nurse’s Aide on a Medical-Surgical unit at age 17 while attending college. Upon graduating, she was hired on the same unit and 3 years later decided to take Critical Care Training. She then worked ICU, CCU and Stepdown for many years, tirelessly working many weekends and most holidays. Also, Marcia, the family nurse, lovingly took care of her parents and other family members for all of her career. As the parent of two young children and the desire for a better working schedule, her nursing experience was expanded at South Hills Home Care.

In 2004, Marcia worked in UPMC Employee Health at both McKeesport and Children’s Hospital. This opened the door for her current position in research at the University of Pittsburgh. Marcia accepted a position in General Academic Pediatrics in the Oakland office. She worked there for many years and now works in a Children’s Community Practice in Brentwood. Marcia’s supreme organizational skills, attention to detail and avid curiosity in research has become the ideal professional step for her. She has experience in numerous Pediatric Research Trials on evaluating, management and follow-up of children with UTI’s, Otitis Media and has completed education in Human Subject Research.

Marcia married her high school sweetheart, Bob, and has two wonderful grown children, a son-in-law and a precious grandson. When not at work, she loves to spend time with her family, friends and enjoys traveling. Marcia’s true passion is in cooking, nutrition and Alternative Health methods. She has spent years attending numerous seminars and retreats learning new Holistic Healing Modalities.
