Roe, Corey Accepted Into Physician Scientist Incubator Program

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Michelle Roe, MD and Catherine Corey, MD, MPH for being accepted into the University of Pittsburgh’s Physician Scientist Incubator Program as Burroughs Wellcome Foundation (BWF) Scholars. Roe is a fourth year fellow in our Pediatric Hematology-Oncology track, with a research focus in CAR T cell therapy for Ewing sarcoma. Corey is a fifth year fellow in Pediatric Endocrinology with a focus in bone health in Type 1 diabetes.

According to its website, the mission of the Physician Scientist Incubator Program is to “train the highest quality biomedical physician investigators, focusing on those with MD degrees without PhD doctoral training who seek careers that involve pre-clinical research. Support from the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation (BWF), UPMC, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine enables us to offer comprehensive training for residents and fellows as BWF Scholars. Our program is deliberately structured to build the scientific, professional, and resiliency skills necessary to become a successful physician-scientist.”

The year-long program, which began in July, provides supporting funds for tuition costs, professional development, and non-academic time-management, as well as weekly scientific and leadership development classes.

Please join us in celebrating this wonderful career development opportunity for Drs. Roe and Corey. And follow Pitt Pediatrics on Bluesky for future updates on faculty and student recognitions, awards, and career milestones.
