Starting in Academic Year 2023-2024, we are moving to an X+Y+Z scheduling model. The diagram below outlines the rotations in each of the three years. Each rotation lasts two to four weeks. All residents participate in a night team call system, with the night team working Sunday through Friday evening. All residents on inpatient rotations participate in a short call system in which they stay until 7 p.m. every other night from Monday through Friday. PGY-1 residents’ weekend inpatient call is divided into 12-hour shifts.
The daytime PGY-2s and PGY-3s take overnight call on the weekends. Saturday calls for seniors are 24-hour shifts. Several electives in the senior year are free from call obligations. The schedule is adjusted yearly to balance educational and service needs.
