Craig P. Dobson, MD is Director, Cardiac Clinical Operations at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dobson graduated from Webb School of Knoxville in 1992 as a National Merit Scholar. He, then, matriculated to George Washington University as a Presidential Honor Scholar. During his college years, he was a White House Intern in Washington, DC. He received his Bachelor of Science degree (Magna cum Laude) and his Doctor of Medicine degree (with Distinction) from The George Washington University, Washington, DC. He completed a residency in General Pediatrics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center/National Capital Consortium. His fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology was at Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC.

He was Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland and later Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. He served as Deputy Commander for Clinical Services for the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Kuwait. Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, he was Chief, Pediatric Subspecialty Services directing all pediatric subspecialty care for military families in the Washington, DC area. Dobson achieved the rank of colonel in the US Army and served 21 years on active duty as an Army officer and physician. His awards include the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, and the Order of Military Medical Merit (lifetime achievement award). He served in Iraq as a Field Surgeon with the 82nd Airborne Division near Fallujah. Later, he was Squadron Surgeon for 1/32 Cavalry 101st Airborne Division in Kunar Valley, Afghanistan. He retired from active duty in 2021. He has been chosen as Fellow of the American Heart Association and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dobson has also demonstrated strong scholarly contributions in the area of mechanisms of sudden cardiac death, risk stratification, and prevention strategies.

He has worked on arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and has a first author publication on the causes of sudden unexplained infant death and the role of the primary pediatrician. He has been an investigator in several projects, including the Genetic Exploration of Military Cardiac Sudden Death and the Military Cardiovascular Outcomes Research. In addition, he created a consortium within the Department of Defense to study the cardiac implications of COVID-19 in children and young adults.
