Owusu-Ansah Earns Advocacy Award From AAP

Congratulations to Sylvia Owusu-Ansah, MD, MPH, FAAP, for being awarded the Section on Early Career Physicians (SOECP) 2023 Leadership in Advocacy Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Owusu-Ansah is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, as well as the EMS Medical Director at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the Associate Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Pediatrics. She was recently awarded the inaugural JEDI Award from our Department, and is one of the leaders of our community engagement and education program, CHAMP.

The SOECP Leadership in Advocacy Award is presented annually to an early career physician or organization that has implemented initiatives to bring about a positive impact on children’s health and/or physical wellness, demonstrated a consistent commitment to community pediatric health, and lead the execution of an advocacy initiative that intends to serve as a pathway to health equity.

Through her tireless efforts with CHAMP, as well as other community and healthcare DEI initiatives, Owusu-Ansah has demonstrated a commitment to our pediatric Pittsburgh community, and to providing equitable care and access for all.

Owusu-Ansah received the award at the annual AAP conference in October. She graciously acknowledged help and support from the Department of Pediatrics, Jen Albaugh, from the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Raymond Pitetti, MD, MPH, FAAP, Director of the Division of Emergency Medicine.

Please join us in congratulating Owusu-Ansah on this incredible honor!
