Poholek Appointed Associate Vice Chair Of Basic Research

Pitt Pediatrics is excited to announce the appointment of Amanda Poholek, PhD, as Associate Vice Chair of Basic Research in the Department of Pediatrics.

Poholek received her Ph.D. degree from Yale University and completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Arthritis Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) in Bethesda, MD. She joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2015. She also is a member of the Department of Immunology.

Poholek’s research is focused on understanding how immune cells integrate signals encountered in the environment to drive functional outcomes at the molecular and epigenetic level in both health and disease.

Poholek is the Director of the Health Sciences Sequencing Core at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Assistant Director of the Microbiology and Immunology Diversity Scholars (MIDS) Program, and co-host of the podcast, “That’s Pediatrics.”

In her new role as Associate Vice Chair of Basic Research, Poholek will work closely with John Alcorn, PhD, Vice Chair of Basic Research, Todd Lamitina, PhD, Senior Associate Vice Chair of Basic Research, and Henry Dong, PhD, Associate Vice Chair of Basic Research to support laboratory-based research activities in our community. Poholek will have primary responsibility to enhance translational research. She initiated her new responsibilities on August 1, 2023.
