Harris Appointed Director of UPMC Children's Cardiac Exercise Laboratory

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Tyler Harris, MD,  for his new position as Director of the Cardiac Exercise Laboratory at UPMC Children’s. 

Harris is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh SOM. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2006 with a BA in Biology and earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2010. He completed pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University. He then joined our faculty in 2016, to focus on Inpatient and Outpatient Cardiology Services, as well as Exercise Physiology. In 2017, in recognition of his extraordinary skills as an educator, he was appointed as Associate Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program and APP Fellowship Director. Since then, Dr Harris has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to teaching and mentorship, playing a pivotal role in curriculum development and other essential aspects of the educational mission of our program.

As an expert clinician with a devotion to providing the highest quality, efficient and comprehensive cardiac care services, he has become an integral part of the 7A Acute Care team. In 2021 he input was critical in the creation of the Inpatient Cardiology Consult Service. In addition, Harris is locally, nationally and internationally recognized for his clinical expertise in the care of patients with Kawasaki Disease and MIS-C.  Furthermore, given his expertise in exercise physiology he implemented lesion specific stress test protocols and other changes which helped enhance efficiency and accommodate growth in the Exercise Lab.

In his new role as the Director of the Cardiac Exercise Laboratory, Harris will spearhead our efforts to understand and address the cardiac health of children and adolescents, with a specific emphasis on exercise and physical activity. We are confident that his leadership will elevate our clinical and research capabilities in the field of Exercise Testing, ultimately enhancing the quality of care and improving outcomes for our patients.
