Sharp Presents Findings on High Stress Levels Among Female Medical Trainees

Eleanor Sharp, MDPitt Pediatrics congratulates Eleanor Sharp, MD, fellow in the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, on her presentation during September's Women in Medicine summit discussing stress among female medical trainees.

In April, Sharp led an online survey for fellows and residents across the UPMC system to physician trainee experiences related to parental leave, breastfeeding and child care.  While overall Parental Stress Scores were similar between men and women respondents, 36% of women compared with 13% of men reported that they would either be required or anticipated being required to extend training due to parental leave.
