Lin Appointed Training Director of K12/CHP Scholars Training Program

Pitt Pediatrics is excited to announce the appointment of Philana “Ling” Lin, MD, MSc, as Training Director of the K12/CHP Scholars Training Program in the Department of Pediatrics.

Lin is Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She received her M.D. degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed her Pediatrics residency at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. She was recruited to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship, where she finished her Masters in Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute. She joined the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in 2003. Dr. Lin is a former K12/CHP Scholar, K08 awardee, and now consummate physician-scientist with a research focus on the host immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in those with and without HIV co-infection.

Since 2013, Lin has been Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program, ensuring the successful transition from fellowship to academic faculty. She is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Society of Clinical Investigation. Lin has been a member of the K12/CHP Scholars Steering Committee since 2018. She is the infectious disease lead for the Institute of Infection, Inflammation, and Immunity in Children (i4Kids) and currently is Vice Chair of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society Fellowship Awards Committee.

The K12/CHP Scholars program provides a two-year, mentored training experience for junior faculty who seek careers as independent, NIH-funded pediatric physician-scientists. The program supports training for early faculty interested in innovative laboratory-based, patient-oriented, or health services research.

As Training Director, Dr. Lin will work closely with Terence Dermody, MD, members of the K12/CHP Scholars Steering Committee, and the program faculty to identify, mentor, and foster the careers of future leaders in pediatric research who are dedicated to improving child health through discovery. Lin assumed her new responsibilities on September 1, 2023.

Let us take this opportunity to thank Linda McAllister-Lucas, MD, for serving as K12/CHP Scholars Training Director for the past year.

Please join us in congratulating Lin on this important leadership role for the Department of Pediatrics.
